I will never forget 2017.
In January of that year, I was fortunate enough to discover a platform where you can host and earn from a blog.
All that you needed to do was to ensure that you were creating helpful content.
Of course, you also needed to know how to network because earnings on the platform were not just dependent on content quality.
You needed to know how to network and get enough votes(likes).
The more high-value votes your content could get, the higher your earnings.
I had spent the past five years before then learning how to blog but lacked a laptop/ computer that was much needed to run a blog.
Even after getting a laptop in late 2016, I still lacked the resources needed to host a standard blog online.
I opened a blog using a free WordPress account, but that didn’t get much traction.
So when I discovered Steemit in January 2017, it was a match made in Heaven.
The platform was structured like Medium.
There were already people active on the platform, all I needed to do was to find a way to attract them to my profile and also get them to follow me.
Before then, I had not made a dime online despite all my learnings.
I had just entered 200 level as a Banking and Finance Undergraduate and had a head full of dreams.
I created my Steemit account on January 27th and started blogging and by April I had passed over $3000 in earnings.
Another thing that helped me get to that amount faster was that I blatantly refused to withdraw my earnings, even when I was making hundreds of dollars weekly.
Steemit had a wallet feature that enabled you to earn more when you staked your earnings in your wallet, so I took advantage of it.
It was a display of delayed gratification that shocked a lot of people and made some people I told doubt that the earnings were real.
But I am not here to tell my Steemit story and how it helped me make my First Million online.
I already did that some weeks back.
I am here to highlight the actions that enabled me to get such results in the first place.
The Genesis ( Abi Matthew)
The reason why I am writing on this topic this week is because of this message that I got on Tuesday.
After running a survey on my WhatsApp and getting more feedback from people having the same issues, I decided to give a more robust answer.
There are two answers to this question.
The first is the fact that there are actually periods during your life where you need to go all in a particular task/project and give zero efforts to other things.
Be it other projects, social activities, etc.
At this stage, it is just you and God.
I remember when I was in that season.
I lived a triangular lifestyle and spent time in only three places: Home, School, and Church.
Nothing else mattered at that point and that was one of the most productive periods of my life.
I am not saying that other things are not important, in the next section I will break down why you need to do this and for how long you should do it.
The Power of Ghost Mode
When I started blogging on Steemit.
I had some skills but zero income.
But I was a student, so I didn’t have much free time to work as I had lectures every day.
So this was my daily routine:
Wake up in the morning and go to lectures, most days lectures lasted past 2 pm
Go back to the hostel and freshen up and clear any needed thing off my plate.
Once it was 4/5 pm. I carried my laptop and went to Night class and would create content and build connections all night on the blogging platform.
I did this repeatedly for months. No social life. Rarely active on social media platforms.
There were days I would sleep off in the Night class and my classmates coming for morning lectures would be the ones to wake me up.
I will then rush back to the hostel, bathe, dress, and come back for lectures.
You can run a Ghost mode routine where you have a major goal you want to hit and you can run it for as little as 3 months or as much as one year:
Here are the things that you could go into ghost mode for:
Learning a New Skill
Building a New Business
Monetizing Your Skills
If you don’t have a major source of income, you are overdue for a ghost mode.
But whether you are in ghost mode or not, you still need to have an optimal routine that would ensure that you are productive daily.
I will share three resources that can give you a significant headstart.
10X Resources
Earlier this year, I wrote a book about How To Get 40 Hours daily.
It’s easy to read and contains practical strategies that you can use.
Read it now and note down the things you need to implement to start having more productive days.
Then watch the next video by Sabry.
All these resources should be studied in one day so that you can craft a strategy.
If you procrastinate, you won’t get it done.
So make your choice now.
Download a free copy of the book by clicking the button below.
This video by Sabry Suby is the best that I have ever watched on going into Ghost Mode.
His style resonated with me.
The key here is that as you watch, you need to swap the activities that Sabry did daily with the things that would drive the most growth or income for you.
The last resource is a summary of Ali Abdaal’s “Feel Good Productivity”.
You should get the hard copy of the book if you can as Ali brings a fresh perspective into the productivity niche.
I have been applying some of the things he taught with amazing results.
It pays for you to key in.
Closing Remark
The video by Sabry Suby will give you a sample daily routine that you can tweak.
The 40-hour book would help you do more with less time.
The Feel Good guide will help you with little-known tactics that would help you get better days.
By the time you are done with these resources, you should have an action plan of how your days should go.
One more thing.
Productivity and consistency are like a muscle, this would be a new journey for you and you will need time to adjust.
After creating a list of things that you need to do daily, pick a particular one that you must do every day, no matter what.
For me currently, that is journaling how my day went, the things that I achieved, and the lessons learned that day.
I end each journal entry with the things that I have to do the next day, so I don’t wake up lacking direction for the new day.
I rarely complete all my tasks for the day, but by being consistent with journaling every day, I am slowly being able to transfer that consistency to other tasks.
So after structuring your day, pick one thing that you must do every day no matter what.
And one day, you will be able to do what I am doing currently.
I was supposed to publish this newsletter by 9 AM, but a Family emergency affected my ability to do so.
It is 9:15 PM as I type this, but I have said I will not sleep until I publish this newsletter.
Most people won’t see it because it is late: I don’t care.
I am so tired after a long day and need to eat and sleep: I don’t care
Publishing it on Monday morning is not a bad idea: I don’t care
Today is Champions League final and I am missing all the fun: I don’t care
One of my goals for this year is to publish one newsletter episode every Saturday and I would always do that no matter what.
So help me God.
Goodnight and remember.
Build resilience until you become stubborn with your goals.
And lastly, try to start journaling how each day went.
It will change your life.
I wish I started sooner.
Better late than never though.
Goodnight once more.
Always resonates and seems to come exactly when you need to hear it. Thank you, sir.
