When you got into school.
The first thing that you were taught was ABC and 123.
Alphabets and numbers are very basic, but they lay the foundation for everything you know today.
This is also a strategy that you need to also work with as you work on learning more things.
Always seek the foundational building blocks that power everything and your journey will be more effortless.
Talking about foundational building blocks.
I will just go ahead and list them so that you won’t be left wondering what they are.
For people that follow me on WhatsApp, you would know that I am very vocal about learning high-income skills like online writing, design, and programming.
But these are just mostly tier two skills.
There are five core tier one skills that determine your ability to learn every other skill on earth.
And they are :
Reading
Writing
Arithmetic
Persuasion
Computer Programming
These are the core skills.
Every other skill that you might have heard of is a combination of two or more of these five skills.
I have been able to master just Reading, Writing and Persuasion.
These three things enable me to be good at online writing, community building, marketing, speaking, sales, strategy, branding etc.
I didn’t talk about this publicly but I started learning computer programming this year so that I could build the Superday App myself.
I learnt basic HTML and CSS and was getting started with JavaScript before I chose to get a Technical Co-founder instead and focus more on the business side of things.
You can see one of the web pages I built during my brief coding Career here: Crypto College
Anyways, enough of the stories.
You are here for my writing secrets.
So I will share some of them.
The first secret is reading.
For you to be a great writer, you need to be a great reader.
And this principle holds the same for every type of content creation.
It doesn’t matter if you make a podcast or create videos.
The value of what you put out is directly tied to the amount of insight that you have been able to gather.
I remember when I started blogging in 2017, I had to do lots of research before I could write a 400-word article.
But with this very sentence, this post just hit 400 words and I didn’t have to do any research to get to this point.
I actually didn’t plan to write this article today, I woke up inspired after seeing the feedback from my live writing challenge on my WhatsApp Status.
I have read so much that it has become easier for me to create content.
My brain has a big bank of insight to draw from at all times.
Another writing secret of mine is Storytelling.
If you read my last newsletter episode you will see a heavy application of this principle.
People come online for three primary things.
Education, Entertainment and Information.
I don’t need to do much talk for you to know that Entertainment is the favourite brand of content these days.
Adding storytelling to your writing (Videos, Audios) is the fastest way to get and hold people’s attention.
Everyone loves a good story.
If your content sound too academic or like a Final year project work, people would get bored easily.
So when creating.
Find a story that is relevant to the information that you are trying to pass across and people would be more willing to read to the end.
The last secret that I am sharing today is the use of Paragraphs.
There is one thing that you need to understand.
People scan more than they read.
Since the beginning of this article, you have been trying to scan through.
But because I make use of enough paragraphs you are reading everything line by line.
When writing articles, the maximum amount of sentences allowed in a paragraph is three.
No one likes a huge wall of text.
Break down your words into smaller paragraphs and people would find your work easier to read.
That’s enough secrets for one day, or this might just turn into an ultimate guide.
This was meant to be just a quick note.
P.S This post took me 45 minutes to write, but you can share it in just 5 seconds.
Kindly make use of the share link to help spread on your WhatsApp Status, Facebook etc.
Thank You.
Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate.
Reading this again and I'm so glad I bookmarked this!
I love the story telling secret the most! Thank you so much
