Some years back.

Some members of a global community I was a member of were getting scammed.

They fell victim to a fake crypto lottery website that took the little money they had when they tried to withdraw their fake winnings.

I wrote two posts about a legitimate crypto faucet that I knew.

I plugged my affiliate link into the posts and moved on.

Some weeks later I got an email.

I was being paid based on the activity of the people who registered on the website.

I don’t even know who they were.

I just know that I have 111 referrals.

I still earn from that website to date.

Below is my total income so far in Bitcoin.

I have made over $30,000 from the website.

I chose to use this particular income stream as an example because it required the most little effort on my part.

But at the same time, it didn’t just happen.

I was properly positioned to benefit from something like this.

And that’s what I will use the rest of this article to explain.

The Roadmap of a Foreign Currency Earner

The first thing that you need to understand is that the business model doesn’t matter.

If you can earn Naira, Cedis, Franc, etc from a business or skill.

You can charge Dollars, Pounds, and Euros for it.

I chose to clear it now before I start getting DMs about platforms that pay in dollars.

Any new platform will require you to build an audience or learn a new skill focused on that business from scratch.

It is better if you earn foreign currency from what you do currently.

I started off selling my courses to Nigerians and working for Nigerians.

Before I started selling to Foreigners and working for foreigners.

Sandra Lawrence is a Fashion Designer that I patronize.

She started off making dresses and selling them to Nigerians.

Now she sells to Foreigners too.

You are probably learning a tech skill like me

Or a traditional skill like her.

The key is positioning that thing for the foreign market.

No business has a monopoly on earning internationally.

If a man invests all of his money, all of his time, and all of his intellect into giving the world what it needs, the world will have no choice but to give him what he wants. - Naval

The biggest challenge that you will face on this journey is being distracted.

And most of these distraction comes from the wins of others.

Before you jump on a new business that looks more lucrative.

Ask the people winning big how long it took them to get there.

You will find out that the timeline took months and years.

You can’t wake up and win big in any sector overnight.

It takes time and effort.

I am not saying that you can’t change lanes.

But make sure that you are ready to commit for the long haul.

The benefit of what I am doing today is helping you move with more intentionality.

Intentionality is the only thing that would help you move faster than normal

Here are the stages.

Stage One: Become Good At What You Do

You already know that being good is a requirement.

The best way is to start by replicating the work of the masters.

This applies if you are designing shoes or websites.

Find the top people in your field and follow them religiously.

Over 90% of your social media followers should be what I call a tribe of mentors.

People who are operating in levels that you want to reach.

Seeing their output will keep you on your toes daily.

But there is a mistake many people make.

They try to wait until they are good like those masters before they start sharing their work.

Doing this will add at least 3 years to your timeline.

You don’t want that.

No matter what skill or business you are learning.

Good courses and expanding your reach (eg running Ads) cost money.

You need to start earning smaller amounts in the short term while gunning to be like the big guys.

So start sharing what you are learning and building from Day One.

It is egotistical to think that you should only share your output when you think it is super amazing.

I always use this example.

When I started learning how to design products in 2019.

I shared my very first design.

I got a lot of things wrong, but I didn’t mind.

I was more concerned with people knowing what I did and the feedback that I got.

Also, the big guys in your field will help you improve if they see your frequent output.

It signals to them that you are serious.

No one invests time or resources in you if you are inconsistent.

Over the months, my designs improved as I learned more

And after five months, people started giving me jobs.

One of those jobs landed me in a Global company.

So becoming good at what you do goes hand in hand with doing things that lay the foundation for your success.

Everyone in your social media circle must know what you are learning or building.

Be extremely loud about it.

One referral can change your life.

Stage Two: Learn The Business of Your Art.

There are two parts to whatever it is that you are building.

• The Art of Business

• The Business of Art

The art of business has to do with learning the skill or getting technical know-how.

This is what 90% of people focus on.

But you also need to learn the business of your art.

This is everything that can help you earn from that skill.

A lot of people skip this stage and restart stage one with a different skill and wonder why they are not earning.

The secret to earning is not learning more skills.

It is figuring out how to earn from the skill that you already have.

The very first skill that I learned was content development.

I made my First Million Naira from that skill and more before I started adding more skills to my portfolio.

The fact that you know how to sing, does not mean that you automatically know how to make money from your music.

The first level of learning the business of your art in 2024 is knowing how to sell what you do

Both offline and online.

If it applies to your business.

Make sure you grow your brand on social media.

The only way to jump this process is by running Ads.

But if you want to start by building a brand.

Pick a social media platform and learn and practice what it takes to build a brand there.

Stage Three: Target the Foreign Market

If you do stage one and two well.

This stage might just happen automatically.

The Internet is a very powerful place.

But at the same time, you still need a level of intentionality.

Find the platforms where you can list your businesses and list there.

Learn how to run ads to capture the foreign market (social media ads are better)

Figure out other income streams that you can extract from that same business.

Hilda Baci went viral as a cook,

but she now runs cooking classes and also earns as an Influencer and a conference speaker.

There is so much you can do.

Don’t limit your thinking.
